چکیده

A new technique is proposed for performance evaluation of random access protocols. This technique is based on the idea that the service probability distribution of a particular random access protocol can be described by a phasetype distribution. By modeling the service probability distribution of a protocol into a phase-type distribution, the performance of the protocol can be evaluated using an equivalent Continuous Time Markov Chain. In this paper we demonstrate the applicability of the technique to performance evaluation of the IEEE 802.3 and the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols. Furthermore, we provide an example of performance evaluation of a MAC protocol subject to bursty traffic models such as the Markov Modulated Poisson Process. The accuracy the results are verified by simulation.

Modeling of VANET Technology & Ad-Hoc Routing Protocols Based on High Performance Random Waypoint Models

Today, one of the new technologies in the modern era is Vehicular Ad-hoc Network which has takenenormous attention in the recent years. Because of rapid topology changing and frequent disconnectionmakes it difficult to design an efficient routing protocol for routing data between vehicles, called V2V orvehicle to vehicle communication and vehicle to roadside infrastructure, called V2I. Designin...

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Performance evaluation of hierarchical SRMA-ALOHA and SRMA-Poll protocols

New hierarchical protocols, SRMA-ALOHA and SRMA-Poll, are proposed for multiple random-access in wide area satellite data networks. The stations are grouped and operate in ALOHA or Poll mode, and group master stations access the channel using the SRMA scheme. The performance of protocols has been evaluated using simulations. Throughput and delays are presented for various traffic load condition...

Mac Protocols for Monitoring and Event Detection in Underwater Networks Employing a Fh-bfsk Physical Layer

Underwater acoustic networks of fixed and autonomous nodes can be a very valuable tool in a number of situations, from environmental monitoring to emergency scenarios (e.g., ships in distress). In this paper, we compare the performance of some MAC protocols for underwater networks in typical scenarios. We consider random access protocols, which provide sufficiently high performance in case of l...

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...
